10 ways to get rid of unhealthy thoughts!

When we were young, old people told us about the way life works and the world works, and with our innocence we believed them. As children we were very curious. We wanted to learn so much that we accept everything we learn as real immediately.

On our way to maturity, we learn to define and distinguish between facts and opinions. If someone says that the beans taste bad, we know that it is just an opinion and not a fact because his opinion is based on his personal taste only.

But when it comes to ourselves, we cannot separate the two. but why?

Where do these strange and unhealthy thoughts come from?

In this article, you will learn why you do not represent your thoughts, and what you can do to get rid of unhealthy thoughts.

Human biology and fear

We are social creatures, and that means two things:
  1. We have a biological motivation to get acceptance from others, so we try to please others to survive.
  2. We are biologically programmed to search for danger, so we focus on negatives to help ourselves survive.
They are the source of our unhealthy thoughts, which are aggravated by the unrealistic standards set by society. In ancient times, we had to be loved in order to feel safe, and to be loved was to face rejection, so death was imminent without protecting our tribe.

In modern times, this biological fear means something imperfect in the eyes of the group. We have to be perfect for others to love us, because when we don't, we feel weak.

In order to deal with this fear of weakness, we build ourselves intellectually and protect ourselves by pressing ourselves so that we do not feel weak.

Why is this out of control?

Sometimes, our thoughts are backed by our insecurities, which create false ideas that we believe. We all know that they are only ideas, not facts. It is usually 'I'm not good enough', and it is rooted and rooted mainly in fear.

Fear is the root of self-hate. We are always afraid of being rejected, and this produces most of our unhealthy thoughts.

You are not your thoughts, nor your fears. They are like newspaper articles, or someone else's opinions that are simply not your reality. It is just the result of the conditions of the world in which you live.

Here are 10 ways to get rid of your unhealthy thoughts:

1. Differentiate

I want you to visualize your negative thoughts not as truth, but as opinions.

Here's the difference:

the truth: is true according to reality.

An opinion is a point of view or judgment formed about something, and it is not necessarily based on truth or knowledge. Your negative thoughts about yourself are not facts. It is just your opinion, and it is based on the opinions of others. Let's take a failure case as an example.

The internal idea I'm a failure because I didn't get this job interview. This is not a fact. The truth is that you did not get an interview, but your opinion says that you are a failure. I used your opinion as a fact.

Once you withdraw your opinion, what remains for you is the fact that you did not get a job interview. You can then do something about it, such as applying for other jobs, or using other apps, or notes to improve yourself.

We love taking anything and using it to punish ourselves by subjugating it and pressuring it with our opinions. Pull your opinions apart, look at the facts, then start from there to work on changing that.

Society has made us think this way by setting unrealistic standards. Thinking this way is not entirely your fault. But moving forward is your responsibility. Dealing with these thoughts and getting rid of your unhealthy beliefs depends on you.

2. Meditation

Meditation is a great way to confront your thoughts and feelings. We have always learned to hide our feelings, and to be strong, but this only leads to mental health problems. Instead, we should learn meditation.

Meditation is not just about sitting, closing eyes and thinking about nothing. But it is more about giving your mind a rest so that it can relax and breathe for a moment.

3. Emotional liquidation

Emotional liquidation is your feeling with your feelings, feeling it completely and being allowed to leave. Your thoughts are rooted in your emotions. So, confront and consult with her.

What is the opinion? whats the truth? What is useful? What is not useful? Why do you feel like this?

A simple way to address this is to go through all of these negative emotions and give them up systematically.

Start with fear. Know and identify all your concerns. Feel them and assure yourself that something is right. Then go ahead and deal with guilt, shame, loss, denial and loneliness.

If you are trying to let go of your feelings, remember that anger is only a front. So, when you look at your anger, try to focus on the cause of your sadness, and you will find the peace you are looking for.

4. Mental correction

When you encounter an unhealthy idea, correct yourself. Give up the unhealthy parts of your thoughts because they don't serve you well.

Instead, replace it with more positive phrases as I am not * Including the unhealthy idea *, but I * Including the positive idea *.

For example:
You can change "I'm not good enough because I didn't get this job interview." To "I did not get this job interview, and that's okay. I'm still doing well, and not getting it means it just wasn't destined for me. This does not detract from my self-worth, and I still deserve success."

5.The memo

Memo writing is a great way to review and analyze negative thoughts. Write down your thoughts, analyze them, and discuss them with yourself. Why do you feel like this? Is it true or just an opinion of your previous belief system? How can you turn it into something positive?

Unhealthy thoughts disappear when you encounter them and change them. The best way is to regain the strength I took from you. It may be difficult to start writing a memo as a new habit, if you are not used to it. But the benefits of the memo are worth it.

6. Practice gratitude

If you have unhealthy thoughts, gratitude is one way to fix this problem. You can easily practice gratitude. You just have to sit and think about all the things you are grateful for. You can express it or write it down.

Exercising gratitude is the secret to happiness, because by practicing gratitude you can change your mindset from negative to positive. This will change your feelings, from feelings of inferiority and your sense of inefficiency, to luxury and contentment.

If you are experiencing negative thoughts about another person, your perception of that person will change by practicing gratitude.

7. Understand that you are enough

You have to understand that there is no perfect person, so you are not required to be perfect. You're good enough as you are, and there's nothing wrong with that.

There is always room for growth, learning and change, and comparing yourself to someone else will only bring you misery. And giving in to your expectations of yourself and reprimanding yourself for failing will only bring you feelings of dissatisfaction.

You are good enough, and not everyone will see it, but this does not matter. What really matters is that you know you are good enough. When you start encouraging yourself to adopt this mentality, your life changes.

All obstacles and difficulties that you face will change because your intrinsic value will not be threatened anymore. You are enough as you are, and anyone else's opinion is never true.

8. Positive affirmations

Positive affirmations can be very strong. You can change your perspective when you need to.

Choose Confirmation. It can be a saying, an expression or a quote that expresses you. Choose one that makes you feel strong and positive. Write it down, and repeat it out loud, focusing on that feeling.

9. Determine the effects

External influences can lead to negative thinking. To prevent negative thoughts, you must determine the effects. Start recording what you were doing when unhealthy thoughts appeared.

Identify the effects to avoid or to create a healthy way to deal with them. Once you know the thing that stimulates these ideas, you will be able to find a solution to get rid of them.

You can also prevent negative thoughts from appearing by thinking about positive thoughts. Knowing the 'triggers of joy' will also help you avoid negativity.

10. Self-care routine

A good way to maintain your mental health well is to follow a good self-care routine. First, you need to make sure you exercise regularly in order to maintain your mental health. When you exercise, your body produces endorphins, dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin.
  • Endorphins are the mask of physical pain and promote feelings of happiness.
  • Dopamine boosts our mood and makes us feel at ease. It contributes to stimulating a sense of accomplishment and joy after completing a mission, achieving a goal, or winning a match.
  • Serotonin stimulates feeling confident and elated. It also raises a sense of pride, status and gratitude.
  • Oxytocin stimulates feelings of love and loyalty. This chemical forces us to be with those we love and trust.
Make sure to eat healthy food. Eating less sugar, caffeine and alcohol is a great way to get rid of negative thoughts.

Take care of your mental health by taking a break to feel more about your feelings and draw your boundaries. Create a healthy routine in your life, as it is the best way to help get rid of negative inner dialogue.
